Viva magenta: expert advice on how to wear the exhilarating shade of 2023

Viva Magenta will be the shade that shapes the year of 2023, according to the experts at Pantone. Described as a colour that is rich, regal and full of life, it is an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.
The shade strikes a mix between warm and cold tones, appearing occasionally more red and other times leaning more toward fuchsia.
Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, said, ‘In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.’
With the 2023 shade now official and average monthly searches in the US on Google for magenta clothing up 390 per cent, magenta coloured dresses at 720 per cent and magenta pants at 590 per cent, it’s likely that fashion designers will draw inspiration from this and we expect runways will be full of magenta next year.
