How Dr Ohla Maikina is galvanizing the æsthetics industry with passion and purpose

In an industry brimming with shiny machines and clinical polish, Dr Olha Maikina is a rare gem. She’s a woman who brings soul to science, human warmth to technology, and fierce authenticity to global success. As the co-founder and product director of Zemits, Dr Maikina doesn’t just build beauty devices—she builds relationships while she reshapes the future of skin care.

Dr Maikina’s journey began far from the glitzy showrooms of New York and the sun-drenched spas of southern California. Born and raised in a small city in Ukraine, she was driven by an early and specific vision. ‘The dream of a girl raised in Ukraine was to be a plastic surgeon in San Francisco,’ she laughs. ‘I didn’t know why exactly San Francisco, but I had a clear vision of the Golden Gate Bridge.’

Maikina’s love for medicine was fierce and full-hearted. She graduated with top honours and earned a government-sponsored spot at a medical university. She has always been fascinated by anatomy, physiology, and the body’s miraculous ability to heal itself, but something wasn’t sitting right. ‘I realized I didn’t really want to deal with pain and suffering,’ she reflects. ‘So I looked in the direction of æsthetics.’

That pivot from healing illness to enhancing beauty sparked the birth of something far greater than a career shift. It was the seed of Zemits, a global æsthetic brand now recognized as one of the most innovative in the world.

What began 15 years ago as a passion project among three partners—Maikina, engineer Roman, and business strategist Constantine—has grown into a global force with 150 full-time employees and 200 brand ambassadors across the globe. ‘We started in Ukraine with a very narrow product line,’ Maikina recalls. ‘But within two years, we became the number-one æsthetic equipment company in the country.’

From there, the trio expanded quickly—across Poland, the UK, Spain, the US, and most recently, to a gleaming showroom in Manhattan. But despite the international scale, Maikina insists Zemits is and always will be a family. ‘Some people don’t know who’s behind the brand,’ she says. ‘It’s not a big, cold corporation. We’re an international family of æstheticians.’

If there’s one crown jewel in the Zemits portfolio, it’s the Hydro-Diamond system—a groundbreaking, signature treatment that Olha joyfully calls her ‘biggest pride’. Born during the challenges of 2020, Hydro-Diamond is a new generation of hydro-dermabrasion that combines chemical exfoliation, oxygen infusion, and cold therapy in a clean, efficient, and highly profitable treatment for æstheticians.

‘Classic hydro-dermabrasion had lots of drips, leaks, and unnecessary consumable expenses,’ Maikina explains. ‘We created something that’s clean, more effective, and saves money for æstheticians while delivering incredible results.’ After a Hydro-Diamond facial, clients walk away with that coveted “glass skin” effect—glowing, decongested, hydrated, and lifted.

Zemits’ official slogan is ‘Results everyone loves.’ But to Maikina, it’s more than a tagline—it’s her personal mission. ‘Clients love their glowing skin, and æstheticians love having happy, returning clients.’ Her passion lies not only in product development, but in helping the æsthetic community thrive, especially newer æstheticians who are unsure how to take their first step. ‘They just need support and guidance. I want us to help them live their dream.’

Maikina is currently working on a new project, and while she couldn’t share much, she said that this latest development aims to empower thousands of æstheticians with tools, mentorship, and business support to grow successful practices.

When she’s not in the lab, at a trade show, or managing a global brand, Dr Maikina is a full-time mum to three kids—ten, eight, and a three-month-old newborn. She’s a regular at the gym and finds her balance in the thrill of skydiving, paragliding, and the deep love she has for human connection.

As Zemits continues to expand, the brand’s ethos remains the same. It’s about innovation with integrity, results with heart, and technology backed by a human touch. Maikina’s story is a reminder that you don’t need to be born into opportunity to create it. You just need vision, persistence, a little bit of science, and a whole lot of soul. ‘I love America. I came from Ukraine, and when I got here, I felt like this was where I was supposed to be. This is the place to grow.’
